In Remembrance of them…

Please join in prayers of thanksgiving today those that gave their lives for our Freedom… how much as well did Christ give His life for our Eternity with the Father…

Slay the Dragon

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. Romans 7:18
You would think after all the junk and damage my behavior has caused that I would have figured it out by now? I suppose with the pain total and lives broken from my sin that by now I’d say enough is enough?
Speaking for myself, now that challenges and sin patterns that are getting eradicated by God’s Grace alone are not the heroin, cocaine, daily marijuana use, or abuse of people, but it’s the sobriety sins, the wasting of time, the poor word choice, the ignoring of a need. For I have the desire to do what is right but not the ability to carry it out.
Enter dependence. Enter Surrender. Enter Grace, conviction, redemption, & restoration. For yes, my flesh has chosen things that were deadly, my choices have been poor … but today I am living in His flesh! Today you have His body! Now we hold His Spirit and have the mind of Christ! It is a new day! It is time to drop the old shame and guilt and pick up a sword and fight our flesh desires. Slay the damn sin and change.

Five Basic Characteristics of Biblical Ethics In contrast to philosophical ethics, which tends to be more abstract and human centered, biblical morality was directly connected with religious faith. Hence immoral men and women were by the same token irreligious men and women, and irreligious persons were also immoral persons (Ps. 14:1).

Biblical ethics are, first of all, personal. The ground of the ethical is the person, character, and declaration of an absolutely holy God. Consequently, individuals are urged, “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy” (Lev. 19:2 NASB).

In the second place, the ethics of the Bible are emphatically theistic. They focus on God. To know God was to know how to practice righteousness and justice.

Most significantly, biblical ethics are deeply concerned with the internal response to morality rather than mere outward acts. “The Lord looks at the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7 NASB) was the cry repeatedly announced by the prophets (Isa. 1:11–18; Jer. 7:21–23; Hos. 6:6; Mic. 6:6–8).

Scripture’s ethical motivation was found in a future orientation. The belief in a future resurrection of the body (Job 19:26–27; Ps. 49:13–15; Isa. 26:19; Dan. 12:2–3) was reason enough to pause before concluding that each act was limited to the situation in which it occurred and bore no consequences for the future.

The fifth characteristic of biblical ethics is that they are universal. They embrace the same standard of righteousness for every nation and person on earth.

The Organizing Principle: God’s Character That which gives wholeness, harmony, and consistency to the morality of the Bible is the character of God. Thus the ethical directions and morality of the Bible were grounded, first of all, in the character and nature of God. What God required was what He Himself was and is. The heart of every moral command was the theme that appeared in Lev. 18:5–6, 30; 19:2–4, 10, 12, 14, 18, 25, 31–32, 34, 36–37, “I am the Lord” or “You shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.” Likewise, Phil. 2:5–8 (HCSB) agreed: “Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God … He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross.”

Kaiser, W. C., Jr. (2003). Ethics. In C. Brand, C. Draper, A. England, S. Bond, E. R. Clendenen, & T. C. Butler (Eds.), Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (pp. 513–514). Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers.

During devotions this morning, while performing a “Search” on becoming new.. i cam acress this last highlight… “Christ Becoming Obedient… ”     Now at no  time would i naturally assume Christ, Jesus, was NOT obedient .. however the question arises… Why did He have to BECOME OBEDIENT, even to death on the cross….    We see earlier Jesus does ask his father in heaven to “remove this cup from me” that he may have RATHER not had to go to the cross. At the same time his explains, “if it is YOUR will then let it be done”.

Refreshment in the Spirit or becoming “NEW IN HIM” or salvation… they are all pointing us to the same outcome.. the old self is dead, the NEW self is here and is better and stronger and wiser and more ABLE to perform Kingdom tasks. Yet obedience… continued obedience.. is surely the most challenging task to the new man in Christ.  Maybe after thinking awhile on the fact that even Jesus had to BECOME obedient, we may learn to do the same. Start some NEW habit today that promotes your obedience.

We can’t keep doing it

18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

1 John 5:18-21

There we go… we cannot maintain the same old habits, sins, & destruction. The Father has empowered us to be different, holy, set apart.

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”

The Last Breathed Word

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God agave him bto show to his servants the things that must soon take place. cHe made it known by sending his angel tohis servant John, dwho bore witness to the word of God and to ethe testimony of Jesus Christ, even fto all that he saw. gBlessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it,hfor the time is near.

Revelation 1:1-3

To date, i believe this to be the last written Word found in Revelation to John the Disciple.  Each time i get to Revelation while reading God’s Word, I cannot help but to think, “Did the disciples not get tired?” How many testimonies throughout God’s Word do we read about persecution, betrayal, loss of workers, disappointing relationships… and so on. These guys have been hit down, beaten, dragged, bruised, tortured, starved, betrayed, imprisoned… some even crucified as well yet here we see from John, ready again to deliver the message of God to the churches.

Don’t we need John? or a Peter? or Paul? or Barnabas? Don’t we just NEED our brother to call in to text or to stop by for anything? I need it… I seek it… I’m raising my hand in awareness of my weakness without my community of encouraging friends.  God counted on the men of Jesus immediate contact to deliver this message to others and their efforts have indeed paid off. God entrusted a very few group of elite & dangerous men to be the mouthpiece of His Kingdom and they succeeded. I believe the effort of these men lives on in us and those we inspire. I believe us to be FULLY responsible to not only continue to spread the Gospel but to ALSO grab our brother, our friend, and even our enemy and PULL THEM ALONG WHEN THEY ARE NOT WILLING. I need that to happen. We all need that to happen.

Keep Watch

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our fcommon salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you gto contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For hcertain people ihave crept in unnoticed jwho long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert kthe grace of our God into sensuality and ldeny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Now I want mto remind you, although you once fully knew it, that nJesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, oafterward destroyed those who did not believe. Andpthe angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as qSodom and Gomorrah and rthe surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and spursued unnatural desire,4 serve as an example by under going a punishment of eternal fire. – Jude 1: 3-7

How quickly can it happen right? They have “crept in” unnoticed… then we are surprised when the sin arises amidst a strong group of believers? Verse 5 states again that JESUS destroyed those who did not believe. Often we forget the wrath of God, or forget how He cannot and will not allow continued sin in His Kingdom. Angels left bound under gloomy darkness… no thank you, keep watch brothers, keep attentive on all fronts! Check your house, guard your heart, and be the protector of your family or realm of influence… do not allow someone evil to “creep in” and bring damage to that which you are working so hard to maintain. Ask God for vision and insight in your protection, and allow Him to make your eyes aware of evil or deceit.  Be vigilant to watch, always watch, that NO ONE MAY SEIZE YOUR CROWN.

I am coming soon. hHold fast what youhave, so that no one may seize iyour crown.

Revelation 3:11

Let there be light…

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heaven? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who has understood the mind of the Lord, or instructed him as his counselor? Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?

Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

Isaiah 40:12-15

There’s no taking back the cross… no regret of what it cost!

Driving in today I just got stolen away by the awe of God. The link at the top is the You Tube clip of Hillsong’s “Let There Be Light” …

Today is a great day to just marvel at the power of the living God. For when we seek Him, we notice Him everywhere, in the eyes of our children, in the whispers of a spouse, through the handshake of a brother or friend, maybe in the sunrise, or the sunset, in the quiet, in the commotion, in the happiness, in the pain… God is THE ANSWER for all of us.

A practice for today can be just getting ourselves out of His way… so He can have His way. Listen to the song, thank Him for the breath you take and just soak in His way…

Glory to Glory… He is the One, He is the One, He is the One…

Pay attention…

2:1 Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2:2 For if the message spoken through angels1 proved to be so firm that every violation2 or disobedience received its just penalty, 2:3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first communicated through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard him, 2:4 while God confirmed their witness3 with signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed4 according to his will.

Hebrews 2:1-3

Wow, if the Angels had heard it an spoke it, and the one’s that saw Jesus heard it… how hard is it for us to hear and listen to His word? Think about the downline and how it came to us… First spoken in the heavens… leading to the Evil one being cast out from the Kingdom… then practiced and learned throughout the old testament… miracle after miracle, war after war, and then Christ arrives… a walking, talking, exact replication of the HOLY GOD.. a perfect image of our Lord, the disciples and a few others hear Him, and see HIS work… then the cross, death, resurrection… to come to us? 2017? Is it not completely and totally amazing that the message reached us… in it’s fullness, and solid and still breathing as the Word of God, sharper than any sword, inspired and delivered still today be the HOLY SPIRIT.

Words that come to mind are relentless, unchanging, forever, trustworthy, King, Conquerer…. God confirmed everything for us… Jesus proved it.. the Holy Spirit delivers and empowers…    what else do you need to keep it ALIVE in you?

Witness

11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

1 Peter 2:11-12.

A simple sentence right – The Passions of your flesh WAGE WAR AGAINST YOUR SOUL. Who wants their soul to be at war? Abstaining from the “passions of flesh” is the answer? We read and study and learn and try and dig and yearn….. but it can be simple really… be doing great deeds and glorify God. Find your mission. Focus on that. Dump all the other crap and junk and useless pursuits. What do they bring us? Nothing more than WAR AGAINST OUR SOULS. No thanks. We’re not looking for that. We’re  looking for the glory of God and good deeds. Being a citizen that contributes to the good of mankind.
