In the world of biology, the process of metamorphosis is a mystery to me. An ugly caterpillar moves to a stage called chrysalis where the caterpillar is liquified allowing it to be transformed from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. The scary looking little caterpillar is completely changed into a beautiful state. Not many of us want to take a picture of a caterpillar! But there are art galleries full of pictures of gorgeous butterflies.
Like the results of metamorphosis, 2 Corinthians 5: 17 declares “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Once we invite Christ into our lives, we are “born again.” We have a brand-new nature and fundamentally change from death to life, from darkness to light. Matthew 5:16,17 states, “You are the light of the world… Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
H-O-W-E-V-E-R, we get sucked into the world and our lives reflect the ugly caterpillar not the delightful butterfly. Matthew 13:22 explains what happens, we “hear the word, and the anxiety of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.”
Paul tells how to live out the new creation in Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” John 17:17 says “Sanctify them (make them whole) by the truth, your Word is truth.” Bathe your mind in His word and live your life by it, and you will become a refreshing testimony of Jesus.
As the butterfly is such a beautiful display of nature, I pray your life will become a wonderful picture of Jesus to others especially those closest to you.
