Growing up, when I was in a tough or competitive situation, my dad would look at me and firmly state, “There is no ‘t’ in can.” I was taught to believe in myself, compete hard and win. There are thousands of books that teach the “power of positive thinking.” This mentality is believing in the power of one person, “me”.
As a Christ-follower, I have learned a much more powerful and vastly different mentality based on the “power of positive believing.” There is no comparison in my capabilities versus the omnipotence of our almighty God. There are parameters around my capabilities but there are no parameters around the omniscience of Jesus Christ. You cannot out believe the capabilities of God.
My #1, go-to daily devotion is “Daily in Christ” by Dr. Neil Anderson. He has produced the “Twenty Cans of Success,” taken from God’s Word. The purpose of these “CANS” is to expand your knowledge of our faith-object, the Almighty God. Internalizing these truths will build your faith and help lift you from the failure and darkness of the “cannot’s” to the reality that in Christ you can do all things.
My suggestion is to break these “Twenty CANS of Success” down to four for each workday. Start each day meditating and standing in the truths in these four verses. Let’s start with the Monday verses today:
- Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
- Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
- 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
- Psalm 27:1, “Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
It is time to stop limiting ourselves living in our capabilities but to believe in our God and to live in His strength, power, and wisdom.
