Some of us live to take risks, and some of us are risk averse. When you sit down with a financial adviser, one of the first things asked us, “What level of risk are you willing to take with your portfolio?” Some of us can’t stand to go fast, “too risky”, while others look for an unpoliced straight away where the accelerator can be pushed to the floor. “What a rush!” The adventurer wants to scale mountains, the riskier the better, while many of us conservative folks are really pleased with terra firma (solid ground).
Today, I am going to challenge each of us in our spiritual walk to stop being RISK averse and choose to take a RISK daily. I dare you to take the following RISK:
- RENEW your mind daily. Romans 12:2 challenges us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” God wants us to intentionally “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation means that our mind fundamentally changes. We no longer allow our minds to be molded into the pattern of this world but choose to renew it by the truth and power of God’s word.
- Live daily with INTEGRITY. “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out” (Proverbs 10:9). “Integrity” and “integer” have the same root. An integer is a whole number without any fractions. Integrity is living a whole life without fractions. Paul the apostle tells us what this looks “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” God wants to make us whole, pure and undamaged setting us apart for His purpose. For years I looked at these verses and declared, “No way will this happen in my life.” Then, I began to realize the operative part of these verses. “God is faithful, and he will do it.” I can’t live wholly in my own strength, but God can change and heal me making me whole in His dynamite power.
- Be SPIRIT-FILLED daily. The life that God has called us to cannot be produced in our own strength. For example, the agape (sacrificial) love of Jesus can only be produced by God. We cannot manufacture this in our flesh. Paul commands us in Ephesians 5:18 to “be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.” Take a risk and turn the control of your life over to Him.
- KNOW daily that God is in control. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose.”
