The Future Should Impact Today!

What’s seen in the future should impact what we do today.  2 Corinthians 5:10 says, 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.  Rev 2:23 declares that “all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.”  After we experience life on earth, each of us have a personal appointment with Jesus.  The agenda of that meeting is “what is due us for the things done while in the body, good or bad.”  As believers in Jesus, our eternity is secure; however, a reward meeting is scheduled for our deeds.

It is staggering and sobering once you realize that NOTHING ON EARTH IS DONE IN A VACUUM.  EVERYTHING MATTERS!  The good news is, once heeded, you discover abundant life not focused on this world but on Him.

1 Corinthians 3 gives us a hint of what the heavenly assessment will look like, “11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.”  These verses proclaim which deeds will last and what won’t last. For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”  The foundation of your deeds must be Jesus.  Living in the flesh is a waste of time…your deeds are incinerated.

Matthew 16:24-26 highlights three actions that bless the Lord and prepare you well for your divine appointment, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross (daily) and follow Me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels and will then repay every man according to His deeds (literally “doings”).

  • Deny yourself – Deny means living locked into His Kingdom not your own… humility and obedience are the foundational attitudes in denial of self.
  • take up His cross daily – Sell out to Jesus.  Romans 12:1 states it this way, present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice.”
  • follow Jesus– Go where He wants you to go and do what He wants you to do.

What will Christ be like at this appointment?  Since He has already wiped your sin clean on the cross past, present and future, you will experience forgiveness“He will speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), be “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), be full of “lovingkindness”(Psalm 62:12), be “without partiality” (Colossians 3:25).  Important to know, you will be on your face because of His holiness. “Exalt the Lord our God And worship at His footstool; Holy is He(Psalm 99:5).

What’s seen in the future should impact what we do today!
