I don’t care what baseball league you play for, coach or watch, home plate is always 17” wide. Whether it is Pee Wee, Little League, Traveling Team, High School, Collegiate or Major League Baseball, home plate will always be the same width. You can travel all over the world and discover that home plate in regulation baseball never changes.
Home plate is wonderful metaphor for God. From the very beginning of mankind, God has not changed. And, the Bible states clearly that going into future, He will be the same. Hebrews 13:8 states, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” God will be the same today, as He was yesterday, and He will be tomorrow. You can count on it!
And, this unchanging God, says there is one way to get to know Him.
- John 14:6 Jesus explains, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- St. Peter further explains this in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else (but Jesus), for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
- Romans 10:13 declares, “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you humbly call on this personal, unchanging God, He will come into your heart and walk with you daily from this point forward. You will discover that He will be the same today, as He was yesterday, and He will be tomorrow. Again, you can count on it!
I write the above in memory of my Dad. His birthday was today. He was a huge baseball fan, and a man who knew God.
