I don’t know about you but I love sweets…actually, too much. If I was responsible for the sequence of a meal, I would start with sweets…why not?! It’s my favorite part of the meal. Of course, if I started with sweets, I would never get to the good-for-you part of the meal. In case you bake or mix up a great dessert for me, let me give you a hint what to prepare…rich coconut cream pie, cheese cake, key lime pie, carrot cake, chocolate sheet cake, cherry cobbler or pie a’ la mode, banana pudding, homemade ice cream…. It’s pretty sad that I actually slobbered on myself as I made-up this list. I have a major sweet tooth!
In the spiritual world, God wants us to have a sweet tooth for His word.
- Psalm 119 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
- Psalm 19 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
- Ezekiel 3 3 Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So, I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.”
God wants you to greatly desire His word. Why is that? 2 Timothy 3:16 tells you why, 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
May His words become sweetness to you, and your heart driven to know them. Romans 10:17 says it well, “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
