You Are as Free as You Choose

Galatians 6:1 declares, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”  Paul the Apostle tells us here that God wants us to live in freedom.  On the cross Jesus set us free.  However, our chooser remains all screwed up.  We continue to put ourselves back on the throne room of our lives and live by the flesh.  So, Paul says to us, 16 walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.  We have a choice to either live in the Spirit or live in the flesh.  Let’s take a look at what each one of these looks like.

Choice 1:  Galatians 6:19-21, “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.”

Choice 2:  Galatians 6:22-22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

So, these are the two choices.  Choice 1 comes from a life of pride with self in control of your life producing the acts of the flesh.  Hey, a quick question for you.  We think we are calling the shots with choice 1.  But, are we?  I find that folks who make this choice are overpowered by the world and by the prince of the world, the devil.  Choice 2 comes from humbly living life before a mighty, wonderful God with Him on the throne room of your heart.  The results of your choice are listed above.
