Now What?!

Are you in one of those seasons that everything you touch is either going sour or wrong or crazy or all the above?  You feel like a human punching bag.  Your household is absolute bedlam.  Or, you and your spouse are totally out of synch.  Or, you may have discovered that the he/she has been unfaithful.  Or, your kids are rebellious.  Or, you can’t get the kids well.  Or, your job is awful, boss is absolutely a jerk or a tyrant.  Or, you’re doing the work that three people should be doing.  Whatever it may be, one negative, tough or hurtful thing after another is happening and you are absolutely under the pile.  You are crying out within yourself, “Now what?!  What is going to happen next?”

If you are going thru this season of life, there is a warm, thoughtful, sensitive invitation that Jesus extends to you in Matthew 11, 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Notice who the invitation is extended to…the “weary and burdened” meaning YOU.  Here is what Jesus says that He will give you…”REST.”  Then, He says “Take my yoke upon you” meaning that He will walk along beside you and set the pace for you.  And the attitude that He does all this is so edifying, “I am gentle and humble in heart.”  Again, He states the results, “You will find rest for your souls(mind, emotions and will).  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  You find peace and His presence in the midst of the storm.

So, the invitation is there… “Come to me.”  You have a choice.  You can live in your own power and strength continuing the nasty-now-and-now bedlam or accept His invitation.  In John 14:27 Jesus promises, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
