You Are Missed

The Bible says that each of His children have at least one spiritual gift.   These gifts are given by God to each Christian to serve others. If you have not discovered your spiritual gifts and exercising them to serve others, you are sincerely missed.  There is a hole in the church without you.  You may have already determined that you are no good to others.  That’s a lie.  If you get out of yourself and ask God to use you in your giftedness, you will be surprised.

Battling through depression for many years, I thought myself to be of no use to others.  Thank God for a Life Group leader who thought differently.  He recognized my wife and my giftedness and asked us to go to a meeting to hear about a ministry for young couples before they got married.  I refuted his request several times telling him I am not equipped or at a point in my life to minister to others.  Finally, I relinquished to get him off my back and went to an introductory meeting.  To make a long story short, that meeting changed my life as well as my wife and our family’s life and ended up impacting our large church.  We did get involved in this ministry and ended up starting a marriage mentoring ministry within the church and teaching two marriage classes as well as starting a men and women’s ministry.  Guess what?  To my surprise, I am gifted and God can use me. I had been missed!  By the way, not only was this healing to my local church, it was healing to me.

According to the Bible, ministering your gift(s) is ultra-important.  Romans 12 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with yourfaith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

  • The above passage describes the church as a living body.
  • Each of us is a member of this body with different functions (our individual gifts).
  • Each of us belongs to all the others.
  • If we do not exercise of gift(s), the church will be handicapped and dysfunctional.  If your stomach stopped functioning, you would be in serious trouble… likewise, with the body of Christ.  So many of us are vital to the body of Christ (His Church) but are not functioning.

Spiritual gifts make the church tangible to each other and to the world.  For example, “helping” is a spiritual gift.  Being “merciful” is a spiritual gift.  Certain folks are especially gifted at “encouragement.”  The body and the world need to be touched by these gifts.

Allow me to challenge you.  Discover your giftedness and start serving others.  One tool that will help get going is Spiritual Gifts Assessment Tools –  If you are not actively serving others with your giftedness, You Are Missed!
