A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back to back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12
So, last month I completed Regeneration with about 10 fellow Christians. It was a great moment and our families were there to share it with us. I was very proud that I had stayed the course, done the work, and reconnected with Jesus and God. Although I knew there was still a lot of work to do, I decided to take a breather after a year of going to group each and every Monday.
Since that day, little by little, the drifting started. I didn’t regress to the point of where I started this journey, I found myself praying less, being less patient, spending less time in scripture. Ironically, in one of my messages I wrote about falling into this trap if you weren’t diligent and truly giving it all to God.
Part of what we learn in Regeneration is that our lives are unmanageable by ourselves. We need God and other faithful Christians in our lives to hold us accountable and give us the reinforcement we need on a consistent basis. I found myself floundering a bit without having to look the group in the eye each week and discuss the what, where and why of my previous week.
My wife also noticed it. We spoke last week and agreed that Regen had been a good thing for me and that I should go through the program again. Ha, at one point I had thought I was ready to be a Leader! NOT. I have a long way to go before I can lead a group of men through their own journeys.
So, on Monday, I showed up again at Frisco East and went to the groundwork meeting. As I looked around at the 25 other men in the room and listened to their stories, I realized that I was indeed in the right place. I felt a sense of purpose and calming. I prayed for myself, the church and the 25 men in front of me that we would hear God’s word and be able to fight the demons and temptations facing us together. The enemy comes at us constantly and if there is two things I have now fully realized, if you are not giving it to FULLY, you WILL drift, and that you CAN’T do it ALONE!
great post!
