Easier or More Difficult

Have you heard people say that you are safest when you are in the center of God’s will?  Or do you think that your life will go better now that you are a Christian?

True we can cope with life, and we can more easily face trials because we know and trust God.  But have you thought that your life will actually be more difficult at times because you are a follower of Jesus?  I’m not talking about little inconveniences, I’m talking about real pain, real losses, a real price.

Looking at scripture John wrote in Jn 16:1  “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.

And Matthew wrote in Mt 5:11  “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

The Lord says that we will face trials specifically because we are his followers.  Because we live in a fallen world we will not get along with the world if we are following Christ.

For years I had heard of martyrs and indeed I knew even Christ himself modeled sacrifice.  But honestly in the back of my mind I thought Christ would reward me because I am one of his followers and I avoided being different cause of Christ for the sake of my comfort.

Peter denied Jesus to make his life easier, cushier, so he’d be more accepted.  At a weak point he avoided the pain that came along with being a Christ follower.

Let’s not deny Christ.  Let’s not silence Jesus’ rightful voice and testimony in society when we rub up against the world.  Let’s be willing to receive the consequences and be willing to take a stand, make a statement, take the bullet.  He says we’ll be blessed.  Do you believe that?
