In Ephesians 2: 2-10 we see why the creator saved us and what are purpose is:
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
To begin with, God saved us “because of his great love for us” (vs 4) and he has given us a place of honor: “seated with him in the heavenly realms” (vs 6). This alone should float your boat.
Additionally though, looking at verse 7 we see that we are saved: “in order that”, “he might show the incomparable riches of his grace”. We are actually display pieces of God’s love expressed by his grace to save us, who are really “objects of wrath” (Eph 2:3). We are living trophy pieces of God displaying the “incomparable” nature of his grace to the world here on earth and in the heavenlies.
We are also “his workmanship”, “created in Christ Jesus to do good works” as explained in verse 10. We are made by God to do good things in this world. That is our purpose, that is why we were created. And that is why if we live to only satisfy ourselves, or if we handle our affairs in such a way as to only benefit us personally we will not be fulfilled.
I used to live this way seeking to climb the corporate ladder and make more money. I manipulated things to benefit me personally, often at the expense of others. I was somewhat successful at this but was not happy, nor fulfilled. A different life and career focusing on others has given me joy and peace even though I make way less money and have way less stuff. I used to also not know my identity. Knowing Christ leads to knowing our identity and purpose making all the difference in the world.
