It ain’t all that.

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:20-25

Paul can really lay it down. All through this letter to Corinth we see the words of this man, so overcome by God and the Holy Spirit, yet so admitful of his life in the flesh. His point in it all? We ain’t all that!

No this post, this life, your life, anything you read outside of the words of Christ, just is not that incredible. No man, no people, no efforts, beyond those of the Living King, are worth a dang thing!

When the Barnabas Man Site was first created, I envisioned preaching and messages going out to the masses, declaring the mighty name of Jesus Christ across the inter-webs!! Is it there now 2 years later? hardly!

How foolish to have let my pride and ambitions drive the purpose in the beginning. Here in Corinthians and as we read on through Paul’s writing, we read on and on about the little impact our earthly desires will have on the world. What we do see is the POWER OF CHRIST doing the work and making the sinner found, bringing the dirty into cleanliness and striking the proud into humility. Again, reitterated in Solomon’s words, there is “nothing new under the sun.”

Our work and words fall often to deaf ears. Our efforts and attempts more commonly fall to hardened soil and stone like hearts…. but does that mean to quit? To give up on the message or to stop bring the Word of God to the world? Heck NO! Paul convinces his readers to carry on, to weather the storm and PERSEVERE through the challenges and continue the work God starts!

This is not the day to give up. Today is the day to humble ourselves yet continue. The day to lay down our pride and desire and pick up the cross of Christ. Yes, we ain’t all that but God is and He knows the plan for you and I is grander than any we may imagine!
