We often think Israel is blessed because it is the lineage God chose to be His people, and to bring from it, His Son. But when we read the ninth Chapter of Romans, we realize that from Paul, this one who was a Jew, and speaks to the Roman Church this: “But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Neither are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants. On the contrary, your offspring will be traced through Isaac. That is, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but the children of the promise are considered to be the offspring.” Romans 9:6-8 You see, God didn’t chose ALL of Abraham’s seed, but only the path through Isaac. God chose a line, a small part of the seed of Abraham, to be a people He would use to herald in the Messiah. He knew the hearts of man, and that they would need One who would save them by grace, because the only pursuit at that time was through works, which always ended in failure. It was because of their failure that He foreknew, that we have all been able to be grafted in as sons, because of the promise He spoke through the prophet Hosea: “I will call Not My people, My people, and she who is Unloved, Beloved. And it will be in the place where they were told, you are not My people, there they will be called sons of the living God.” Romans 9:25-26 This is you and me! All the people of the earth, now have the opportunity to become a child of God, through belief in Christ. You can’t work your way into it. For those of you who are still trying hard to earn favor with God, why not rest from your labor of beating yourself up for failure to make the mark, and trust Jesus. He went to the Cross, because God knew we were failures at being righteous. So our righteousness is found in Him, in Christ, our Savior. But we have so much more, for when we believe, He comes into our lives and lives in us, through the Holy Spirit, and guides, and reminds us, to trust, to believe, to appreciate, and to surrender, to the One who made it possible for us sinners, to become pure enough to stand before a Holy God on that day. Instead of trying to work harder, surrender to the One who holds our destiny. Surrender to the One who already paid the penalty for sin in our lives – instead of being angry at God for not making things right, trust Him to save, even when we fail to make things right.
Heavenly Father, thank You for saving us by Your great grace. Lord, help us to see that it is us who fail to trust You, not You failing us. Help us to see it is You who keeps bringing us back to You, not us seeking You. We are failures in the work we try to accomplish so that we feel good about ourselves, but I pray, Father, that You will help us to rest in You. Help us to make the coming year, one in which we turn over ALL to You, for I pray it in Jesus name
