Like many of you, I was riveted to the Brett Kavanaugh proceedings yesterday. One thing that hit me is the enormous opportunity for Christians to not only be Christ followers but be Truth Tellers. Today, to most Americans, truth is a position or a perspective. “Truth” is what best supports your beliefs whether there are false premises or not. “Truth” is a relative term not an absolute term. We as Christians have a wonderful opportunity to flat out tell the truth. But, let me caution us not to be Truth Tellers mixed with judgment and pride but be Truth Tellers mixed with agape love. Ephesians 4:15 could not be clearer, “Instead, speaking the truth in love.” I believe there is a void in America and for that matter in the world. Let’s be tellers of the truth in love.
John 14:6 states clearly that the Christian’s DNA is truth. Jesus say, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” As Christ Followers, our savior and Lord, is the Truth. Truth is who we are.
Ephesians 4 25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbors. When you tell the truth without falsehood, people trust you and what you say.
Ephesians 6:14 tells us clearly what the first article of our armor to battle against spiritual principalities and powers of this world must be. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist. Two points to make here. The belt held other articles of armor in place allowing the Roman soldier to fight effectively. Then, notice the verb in this verse with its adverb…“Stand firm”. When you become a “Truth Teller”, you have the basis to stand firm and fight impacting this lost world.
There is a huge void in this world for truth. Let’s become “Truth Tellers” and put off falsehood. Let’s not be like the world, instead, speaking the truth in love.
