The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom should I be afraid?
Psalms 27:1 HCSB
My wife and I have been discussing the “what’s next” topic. As is, “what’s next” when I am dead and it’s just you and the kids. Or “what’s next” when the youngest one moves out and it’s just us in the house… Or “what’s next” if the market turns and the job situation changes quickly? (we’ve seen that one before.)
The “What’s next” talks have an ability to bring up some fears, doubts, and hesitations. They can create worry and anxiety over items that have YET come to pass.
In the Pslams above we can gain confidence for the “what’s next” questions. For no matter “what’s next” there is our God that says “what’s too big for Me?” It is a narrow path of thinking for the believer that can truly REST in the strength of knowing God has “what’s next” covered. For the Lord may not be showing me the “next” step to financial freedom or the exact path to career accomplishments, or even the fast track to perfect marital bliss… but what does He say above?
Whom should I fear?
Whom should I be afraid?
He has the resources, He has the time, and He has the means to make my “what’s next” question turn to “I’m next”. In the life and mind of the believer God says, “I’m next”. “You come to me first and I’ll be your next step.” “I’ll be your confidence and your guide and your insurance builder.
This does not dismiss our duties as good stewards to plan and save and set goals for those that will live beyond us. However it DOES take away the stress and worry of HOW those plans and goals are to come together and become realities. The Lord is NOT a God of confusion or chaos and has NO PLANS for you that are not sane, structured, and beneficial. Anything beyond that would be OUR OWN MINDS creating such things. He is the stronghold of your life. He is the Light AND the Salvation. Go to Him, Embrace Him, and empower His work in your heart to listen, and learn, and listen some more for “what’s next”
