The Resting Place

15 until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,
and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field is deemed a forest.
16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,
and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.
17 And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust[a] forever.
18 My people will abide in a peaceful habitation,
in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Isaiah 32:15-18

Often for work I have to commute from Dallas to Oklahoma City. Although this drive is not overly intense or long, I have found that taking a break just a bit past halfway has always been helpful. IMG_1829.jpg

This photo above is the location of my “resting place”. Although I have almost always stopped at this “scenic turn off” it has now turned into something more for me. This location just south of Ardmore Oklahoma has become a solitary thinking spot, a prayer spot, and a spot I have used to listen to God speak into my heart and life. As of last week when this photo was taken, I have stopped over 15 times at this spot over the last 4 years. Each time, I pull over, turn the car off, sometimes i get out and walk, sometimes i sit in the silence of the vehicle, but EVERY time, I open up my heart and listen for God. I open my mouth in praise and requests and share my fears, my hopes, and my dreams with my Lord.

There is nothing particularly  special about MY RESTING PLACE, but I can tell you that EVERY TIME I have gone to the Lord in prayer there, HE HAS SHOWED UP. EVERY TIME.

He has spoken into me ideas, encouragement, warnings, wonders, and Spirit filled thoughts and words. He has given me direction and motivation and has continued to fill my heart with love and strength and boldness of Himself.

Do you have a spot like this?    Do you have a spot somewhere that has been consistent and reliable to get alone with God?

I can clearly remember the FIRST time I pulled over at this location in July of 2014, just days after moving across the country, leaving my own family, friends, church, and career to start a new adventure in Texas. I can recall the huge amount of hesitation and fear and excitement that I shared with the Lord.  Do you know what He said to me that day?

“I will be giving you peace here, peace and rest, and quietness. ”

“I will be speaking to you through the silence, and through the people you meet and the places you go.”

“I will be your resting place”

16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,
and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.
17 And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust[a] forever.

Are you ready for some peace and restfulness this morning?  Have you asked the Lord for that yet?

Have you found a place to go and sit and pray to Him over your life and heart?

Find your spot today, find your place to speak with Him and make it a special spot… His voice returning to you will be clear.
