No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29 HCSB
What would your morning look like if the words you used were are focused on building up others in need and giving grace to those that heard you?
Have you started off on the right notes already? Perhaps today can be the start of a new practice of positive and encouraging words?
Every day we are witness to hurting and lost people. Everyday we are placed in the presence of others, whether family and friends, or co-workers and acquaintances, or even strangers or those we may have been avoiding. Each one of those people have their radars open, just like you and I, and today can be the day they receive words of blessing from you and I.
In Ephesians, we read of the first three chapters describing WHO we ARE, and in the 2nd 3 chapters we read of WHAT we ARE TO DO.
25 Since you put away lying, Speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and don’t give the Devil an opportunity. The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need. No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, Lit for the building up of the need so that it gives grace to those who hear. And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit. You were sealed by Him Or Spirit, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
Making the words we use count is a DAILY discipline, it’s even a MINUTE by MINUTE discipline. I often find myself instantly wanting to retract the words I use only to be let down and discouraged knowing I cannot get them back .
This was again the case yesterday morning, as my wife and I started a short conversation on the topic of finances and bills, when before I knew it, words of negativity and selfishness left my mouth. The damage was obvious and I crawled back into my apologetic state of wishing I had thought threw the conversation in a more patient and understanding way.
But it can be different, start with the positive, that NO FOUL LANGUAGE comes from our mouths and that WE MAY BUILD EACH OTHER UP. This is the purpose of having others around us. That NO ONE goes through life alone and in CHRIST all things are directed through grace!
GRACE, GRACE, GRACE, oh Lord how much more GRACE do I need !
And He continues to unleash it upon me that I MAY DO THE SAME.
You’ve got the power friend, You’ve got the power of the positive and someone near you today needs it!
