“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the One who is, who was, and who is coming, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8 HCSB
Such a great reminder for me this morning of what this is all about. It’s not for yesterday, or today, but for eternity. The reasons for everything. The “drive to survive”. All for nothing if we don’t remember the return of our King. For the promise of Christ’s return to earth is the promised of lives restored. The Glory of God in full display for the world to see at once.
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission, that we will bring God’s message of salvation to the ends of the earth. For what? For those that receive His grace will BE SAVED!
It’s easy to forget the reason for our faith. The daily input of the world can quickly over-crowd the thought of God coming back down, in person, to walk this ground. The struggles and trials of everyday life can cloud out the vision of His triumphant return, but it must be cleared. Without the return of Christ, the sin battered world would remain disconnected from our King and His re-creation of all things broken. The Return is the reason for the preaching, for the outreach, for the relationships; the Return is the answer to it all.
Though we do not know His timing, and we do not plan our lives to “stop”, we must stay ready for Him. We cannot allow the one “little” thing today to cause failure before the one “big” thing happens. God commands us to love others and promises to restore it all through His son. This includes us living every moment as though He will come this afternoon and we refuse to fall into the pits of sin and deceit that will intrude into our talk and walk with Him. Perseverance to the mission and commitment to our faith is key. He is coming…
Revelation 3:11 (ESV)
11 I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
