6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. Romans 5:6-9
Thank God this is His way. Despite my flaws, my bad decisions, and my pride; Christ died for me. Good Friday. The greatest act of grace recorded in history that the ONLY One without sin was sent to the cross bearing the weight of my sin.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters,[d] and they gathered the whole battalion[e] before him.28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him. – Matthew 27:27-31
The world stood still that night. Creation itself trembled by the death of the King. Yet, as the veil was torn, allowing unholy people to regain their relationships with the Father, He hung dead on the cross. Do you believe it? Can you see His limp body there, beaten and bloody and torn? For your life? For my life?
As we encounter today as GOOD FRIDAY, we must remember the act was for us as imperfect finite humans. The act by Christ was completed DESPITE my state of sins and deceit and pride. He did it for me. He broke the barrier that Adam and Eve created from that first action of pride taking over in their hearts.
though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.9
Here I was not, am not even that good person! Christ did the will of the Father while I was still a sinner. He didn’t wait for me to clean up my life before He blessed it. He didn’t wait for me to practice strong disciplines before He submitted to the authorities. He didn’t allow the disciples sword to keep swinging when they came for Him in the garden!
CHRIST SURRENDERED to the Father’s Plan. Christ laid down His RIGHTS to complete the most humble act on earth to date. I wasn’t even a good person. At with the most respect to you I submit, neither were you! None of us were, are…
Thank God it’s Friday! Can you tell Him that this morning? Can you submit your heart and your life and your eternity to His Kingdom? You may fear it’s cost right now but be sure it’s value is NOTHING compared to what Christ bore that Friday! Today can be your start of the ultimate life. Today can be the NEW you’ve been needing and the breakthrough to a High Place. A place of peace and joy and submission and a place of humility before the King. Thank God it’s Friday!
