Who Are You

If you are old enough you probably remember a song by The Who called, “Who are you?” I definitely won’t sing it … because NO ONE needs to hear that … and I won’t include the lyrics because they were a little “liberal” in their language in certain parts! I think most people at some time in their life ponders this question … or some maybe for most of their life??? Being adopted at a very young age, as I have previously discussed in this blog, I went through a little of that. My adopted dad was the only dad I knew and is a great man! But, there were times when I wondered, “Who, where, what would I have been if my biological dad not died?” There is, of course, no way of knowing. I am somewhat in contact with my aunts, uncles and cousins from that side of the family, but growing up in the military didn’t spend much time at all with them.

I came to Christ two weeks after getting married. I always joke that God told me I couldn’t handle her on my own and needed his help! Sometimes she thinks that funny … sometimes she doesn’t! I came across a document that laid out who we are in Christ and I want to share those verses here. But, one thing that came to mind as I looked over these scriptures is how drastically different our identity is BC and AC (before Christ and after Christ). How incredibly different are my values and the “measuring stick” I use now verses BC! There is only one measuring stick of course and that is Christ and thankfully we have his Holy Word to guide and help us. In my mind I struggle with negative self-talk/perception more than most, but I am sure there are those who would argue their side as well.

So … what does the Bible say about who we are? I want to make it a point to speak these over my life on a regular basis and see myself through Christ’s eyes!

I am His beloved! Jeremiah 31:3 – The Lord appeared to us in the past,[a] saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

I am a child of God! 1 John 3:1 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

I am Heaven’s poetry! Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

I am forgiven! 1 Peter 2:24 – “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

I am whole in Christ! Colossians 2:10 – and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

I am never alone! Deuteronomy 31:8 – The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

I am an exquisite fragrance! 2 Corinthians 2:15 – For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

I AM FREE!!!!! Galatians 5:1 – It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
