In the past couple of days, I had a long discussion with a dear brother who plays his butt off serving the Lord. And, he is a leader in his church. Yet, he is not experiencing the abundant life. He prays, he reads the word as diligently as anyone I know. He understands spiritual warfare and everyday his desire is to allow the Holy Spirit to fill him. However, as we were talking, I began to realize that he has no close fellowship with brothers in which he can pour his heart out. No group that he feels totally comfortable to share internally hurtful and ugly things. He is not experiencing James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The discussion with this dear brother empathized to me again how much we as believers need one another. God designed us and gifted us accordingly that we must depend upon each other to help us grow and support our growth. As brothers and sisters in Christ, WE ARE ONE ANOTHER. There are no solo acts in the church. My challenge is for each us to find a group where we can be rigorously honest with each. Let me assure you, the Holy Spirit resides in these groups. Below, I did a quick Biblical search of “one another” to emphasize God’s heart.
2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought
1 Corinthians 16:20 Greet one another with a holy kiss.
Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another
Colossians 3:16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another...
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 1:3 The love all of you have for one another is increasing.
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
James 5:9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged.
1 Peter 4:9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
I know we are all ultra-busy…work demands, kid demands, house up-keep demands, activity demands, our marriages, extended family demands, etc. However, I am challenging you get involved in a “one another” group. I can tell you personally it will change your life.
