Are you familiar with Deuteronomy 6: 4-11? What would be your step of obedience to God’s Word knowing this? How about connecting this with 2 Timothy 4:2.
I wrestle with this – admittedly sometimes I am not interested in sharing, I get lazy, tired, and make excuses. I recently flew home from a trip, tired and worn out. When I got home I read this story and was convicted. Hmm… should I at least be aware of potential opportunities? Get outside myself.? I wonder if there are times where I miss the opportunity to introduce someone to Jesus, meet a need, give a kind word…
Here’s the story I received from some friends serving in a Muslim country.
Beverly and I were walking in an area of street vendors and prayed for the Lord to direct us. We came to a group of woman who do massages and nails and struck up a conversation. We asked if we could share a story around those who truly follow Allah.
Curious the women agreed. Beverly began… there once was a little girl who longed to be with her father, who was away a long time on business. Day after day the girl waited to hear from him. Then she finally received four letters on one day! They were written on different dates. Now if you were her would you read the first one or last one or all four?
Perplexed they thought about this and one woman said – well if I wanted to know the heart of my father of course I would read all four!
Right! Beverly answered and in your book in Sura 4:126 it says you should read the Koran, Taurat, Zabur, and Injil (“Injil” is the bible, the books of Moses, Psalms and the Gospels). This would be a true follower. Then Beverly asked: would you like to gather some friends and read the stories of the prophets in these other books with me? She said “yes”
Now they have a meeting to read “the other books” and will read the Injil together. Beverly will bring a national partner and they will begin with the Old Testament then the 14 New Testament story sets leading to Isa Al Masih, who is Jesus. Praise the Lord!
This is how it starts – among unreached and – previously – unevangelized people. You just have to be willing and ready.
I was convicted that perhaps I need to be more aware. And less self-absorbed. John 4:35 states: Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
I need to open my eyes and look for the harvest. I’m going to try and do this more, to look for God opportunities. I think we never know where people are or what may be possible.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lordyour God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
10 When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied,12 be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
2 Tim 4:2
2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
