Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19 HCSB
This morning I am following up on the great post by Sean last Saturday. NEW!! New Year, New day, New, New, New…. As I woke to this verse this morning in one of my bible apps i couldn’t help but to think about the idea and hope of NEW. Specifically today, I’m reminded of my friend Keith.
My relationship with Keith started off in a less than normal atmosphere as we met in a small group setting due to both of our marriages failing. For myself, things were taking a VERY SLOW path to restoration with my wife. (Mostly due to my impatience and refusal to admit faults). For Keith, the path to restoration was virtually dormant. No progress, no improvements at home, and literally NO relationship with his spouse. He was feeling down and although one of the most knowledgeable men I have ever met in regards to faith and scripture, he had hit a wall with God and was not making any progress. Personally and externally with others as well.
I cannot recall the exact day, but I remember seeing Keith walk into our marriage group one day glowing. There was something NEW. Not only did he share that he was starting a new nutrition and fitness protocol, but he had acknowledged to his wife his shortcomings, fears, and worries, and surrendered to GOD his heart in hopes of something NEW. I watched my close friend go from out of shape, overweight, and out of touch with his family, career, and home, to an absolute fitness machine, expert lover, office manager, and all around awesome husband and father. Days and days of continual trips to the gym, meal after meal of rice, and quinoa, and other odd and awkward meals while others feasted on Jason’s Deli ice cream cones. (perhaps i may have been in the others group) and most importantly, a NEW attitude and heart for his wife that he had loved for over 25 years but had NO PASSION with any longer.
When i was driving to work at 5 am, Keith was hitting the gym and pool for laps. When i was calling to say hello, Keith was busy helping his wife at home with chores and duties for the home. Everything changed. He changed. With his surrender to God of his life he was able to receive the NEW.
Moving away from Keith was one of the toughest parts of my change to Texas. Not only was he a MAJOR inspiration to me, but a biblical scholar, a motivator, a jokester, a friend, and most importantly, a brother whom I could count on on trust on for anything. Miles separate us now and his family is growing with grandkids as ours is growing as well, yet the point for today remains…. God brings the NEW !!
Today, tomorrow, the next day… Every day God brings the NEW. Do not let a few rough spots get in the way of your ability to see the NEW God has for you.
Isaiah 48:6 – “You have heard; now see all this; and will you not declare it? From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known.
Revelation 21:5 – And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all thingsnew.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
