12 qFor there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; rfor the same Lord is Lord of all, sbestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For t“everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him uof whom they have never heard?3 And how are they to hear vwithout someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written,w“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But xthey have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, y“Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”17 So zfaith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:12-17
A friend and I were talking last week about this very thing…. Telling the news… preaching … evangelism… being a witness…. call it what you will.
The friend is not a believer thus as the conversation went on we came to the few things that can be a hang up. Item 1: Belief in Jesus Christ. Although I was able to articulate the fact that Jesus Christ did walk on earth and men had even “set up the years” (2017) according to His life, I was not able to find the friend accepting Christ’s Diety Status. Additionally, there was a bit of resistance on the year 2017 as well, which was difficult for me to get over, but alas… what did it say above? How was he to hear without someone preaching? How can he call on Christ without belief?
I’m happy to say that after another 2-3 hours of continued conversation, there were some clear signs of my friend’s belief in something bigger than the universe AND a set of confessions as to why such doubt due to the upbringing and witness of negativity in the church that he experienced years prior. Is it surprising that some many of us allow the EXPERIENCES we have had to determine the beliefs we will live by? I have the same reservations at time toward men, due to situations that i went through earlier in life, HOWEVER…. CHRIST is Lord and … “the same Lord is Lord of all, sbestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For t“everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Another way to read that is, “I don’t get to choose who gets saved!” Bad life, good life, ALL LIFE is possible for salvation according to the Lord. The ONLY thing i can contribute to GOD is my ability to share HIS LOVE that has been shared to me. We have the opportunity today to save lives with HIS SPIRIT, by simply presenting the Word. By living our lives under His example and image, by lifting up a brother, by helping someone in need and by showing the Light of the world in the darkness. “So zfaith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. “
I meet a lot of people everyday in my profession and community. Yet to this day still, the most shocking item is to watch the sales and advertisements, and solicitation of this or that yet NEVER do I see them talk of Christ? Never do I see them share a story of repentance or the gift of transparency to others? Why is that so difficult for us to want to save someone’s life for eternity? Everyone is so hung up on making this time on earth so full and bountiful and amazing, yet this time is but a vapor!!! There are infinities to be had in heaven together yet we are slow to bring people with us there? YOU HAVE TO SPEAK LIFE TO SAVE LIVES.
Father, I confess I want the easy conversations sometimes over the hard ones. I admit often i’d rather talk about the weather than talk about your Son. Take it away from my God, The Laziness, the Comfort zones, the mediocre attitude, the hesitation, and the fear…. Take them all away and replace them with your power, your love, your glory God, Replace everything weak that I trust in with the Strength of your Spirit whom you SAY LIVES IN US!!! Bring me out into the darkness this day Father and let me show your LIGHT! Amen!
