Who among you fears the LORD
and obeys athe voice of his servant?
bLet him who walks in darkness
and has no light
trust in the name of the LORD
and rely on his God.
11 Behold, all you who kindle a fire,
who equip yourselves with burning torches!
Walk by the light of your fire,
and by the torches that you have kindled!
cThis you have from my hand:
you shall lie down in torment.
Part 2 Continues from yesterday, As the Word is a light to our path, yet also we are called to be light. We are the only light for those in the darkness may receive. Often we pray that God will “reveal” Himself to others, but could it not be through ourselves that this revelation may come? How many people do you run into each day? How many in your family struggle with joy or trial or fullness?
Can they see it in you? Can they see it in me? Although we are all in different seasons of our life can there not be a consistent shine among the brothers & sisters of Christ? Think about you sphere of influence. In the marketplace, in the office, on the playground, at the coffee shop, at the muffler shop, in the church service, youth group, the list goes on…
I would guess we all have the ability to shine for at least 6-10 people a day… at least! That can be 6-10 people that see the love of God or FEEL the Light of Christ through our presence. It can be a handshake, it can be an encouraging word, or maybe even something as simple as paying for the coffee or the person in line behind you? Darkness is so easily overtaken by light. Through practice each day we can re-train ourselves to bring light to others in everything we say and do and by doing so we are bringing the glory back to God. There may be someone today that hears nothing positive or sees no good anywhere except through the act you are about to perform for them.
Friends, I have been there. In the dark, alone, wishing I could see through the darkness. You have been there. We can remember that feeling of cold, dormant darkness that halts growth and downgrades life. I say we cast it out this morning, I pray we eliminate the opportunity for someone else to stay in the darkness and we bring the Light.
Daniel 2:22 – he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
This is a point that cannot be overstated for the Christian in today’s world. There are so many needs and so many ways people are trying to find HOPE. Why not begin at the cross and with the Spirit that dwells in you and offer them that HOPE today?
Who can you think of right now that needs LIGHT in their day?
Lord, your Word says it is up to us to be the Light. You call us to live in the “City on the Hill” and to not put a shade over our lamps… We are willing God to shine for your Kingdom. We are going to look for the chances and expect you to USE US in the darkness and cast your light across our paths. We want your light to bring glory to you through us Father. Amen.
