Can a man carry fire next to his chest
and his clothes not be burned?
Or can one walk on hot coals
and his feet not be scorched?
Simple right? Makes sense… today’s Word is from Proverbs and I assume we can relate?
You can have years of committed faith to the Lord and still fall short. We can live a daily life of obedience and trust and yet fall into a temptation that destroys a home. How many times have we heard “I never thought it would happen to me!”
I share this today in confidence as a friend that recently gave up on alcohol shared his experience over the weekend at their daughter’s wedding. Although reluctant, my friend provided and monitored the alcohol supply for the reception and was very concerned about his own ability to refrain. Successfully, he conquered the evening enjoying water and soda as he watched others partake. As he shared this morning he stated, “Man, i can only imagine how many times others have seen me like that and wondered how I managed to get through the night!”.
How different is our perspective when viewed from the other side of the fence? The strength in his decision was not only a huge confidence boost for himself but a visual lesson to others that you can have a great time without going overboard OR losing control. Self-control is a by-product of the Spirit filled man.
While there are MANY things we CAN do without sinning, how many of those things are actually GOOD FOR US? It is true the longer we walk with Christ the stronger and more resilient to sin we become. But brothers, hear this:
“Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?”
Brother, do not let one poor decision destroy the Lord’s work in your heart and in your life. God is jealous for you and longs to find the righteous throughout this land. Righteous through Christ. That man stays away from the fire and does NOT dance near the coals.
Father, our prayers are for the men today that are fire-walking. Our hearts ache for the families of those affected by the tragedy in Las Vegas last evening, and we cannot imagine the pain therein. Lord, change the mind set of men to broaden their fences, build up their hedges, and place protection over their homes and families. Lord may your strength and love overtake our flesh and desires and change our wants to your wants for us. That we may ask and you will provide. Father, we wish not to have callous skin but to be aware of the fires and stay clear. Help us Father to fight and conquer every temptation that is present, however presented, whether through self seeking or by others that those that watch or know us will SEE THE DIFFERENCE in us. The difference of a MAN on fire for GOD. Amen
Extra Credit: False Theology
There is a false theology today that claims there is an ongoing battle between God and the Devil. This is simply not true… although there may have been a very quick one sided fight, God as an Omniscient, Omnipresent being has won against the Devil a mere creature! We are on the side of victory! The only battle that remains is between Hell and the Church. We are the church and He’ll May try to fight, but again …the battle against the Devil HAS BEEN WON! The church must simply choose to act and wave its victory flag!
