End of the line…

But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world  as a testimony  to all nations, and then the  end will come.  Matthew 24:13-14

It has been a bit of a wacky week for the Barnabas Man Site. We have all had a few bumps and changes throughout the week, including myself, and I pray that whatever is going on in your life will be handled through the peace of God and that He will provide grace throughout.   On that note, today I received a call from an old friend, and when I answered the phone, this is what I heard, “it’s the end of the line man.”

Whoa, the end of the line? Yes, that meant what it sounded like.  This call came in and the friend on the other end explained he hit “the bottom” again and had been debating giving up on life. This was not the first time the friend has called. FRIEND has been struggling with an alcohol addiction for years and has been in and out of rehab. FRIEND has not believed in the “after life” and anything outside of the physical realm of earth.

Aware of Friend as a non-believer, I knew the only way I could respond. Friend had said tonight that “life is just hell” and “I’m lost”.  Boy do I know that feeling.  We’ve all been lost, for far too long trying to do this life without God. Life can SEEM like hell, but if we end it tonight without CHRIST, that will truly be hell. I believe that. I believe that so much that I had to tell FRIEND. I had to explain that if he gave up now then that current feeling is going to be a thousand times worse for an eternity and will last forever… a lasting torment of hell forever… NO FRIEND, that is NOT what you want. “Pray with me..” I asked.  “I don’t know how.” Friend responded.     “I didn’t either at first but just repeat after me, ok?”            Friend, “ok, I ‘m ready”

“God in heaven, I need help. I need to stop living the way i have. I believe you went to the cross and died to save me. I believe you rose from the grave and CONQUERED my sins, and beat death. I believe through a NEW Faith in you, that you will save me and be my LORD. I do not know where to go or what to do and i feel LOST. So I need you to take over LORD. Show yourself to me tonight and help me start over. You are now my God.”

Friends, there is a finish line on earth. Some hit it early and some hit it late but none know where the end of the line is. We only have today. We only have right now. I share this tonight in confidence for a few reasons..

  1. My prayer with Friend was real and he is about to have his life interrupted by the GREAT I AM.
  2. Friend’s choices are his choices but I MUST not miss the opportunity to bring the Gospel. We only have today and if you see someone driving the car off the cliff you shoot the tires, or ram the car into the high side of the mountain, or yank the steering wheel. You do whatever you need to do to SAVE the life. Life saving is in the Hands of God.
  3. It’s hard to know if someone is drowning. People are stubborn, people isolate. People will do many things to hide their hurt or hang ups. Be real. Be yourself. Be there. Sometimes just being available to answer a phone call is all it takes.
  4. Don’t give up. Don’t quit. Hard times are going to come but they do not have to beat you down. Trust in the King and pray for belief and strength, and I PROMISE YOU GOD WILL RESPOND. GOD’S DESIRE IS FOR YOU TO KNOW HIM. HE WANTS YOU FOREVER… IN GLORY!

Father, do your work on my Friend tonight. Do ANYTHING to change his habits and hangups and tackle him with your SPIRIT. Lord, do it to me as well, take me everyday and keep it up day after day. We are yours Lord, have your way.
