Watchdog

Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.   2 John 1:8-10

Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. – Revelation 3:10-11

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Matthew 25:13

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”  Matthew 26:41

But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. Luke 21:34

Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:16

These 6 passages are just some examples of the hundreds of places in Scripture we we are told to “watch” or “guard” or “hold” on to our faith, purity, integrity, etc. So many reminders… repeating again and again… watch yourself, hold on to your faith, guard your heart, heed these words…   over and over again from the beginning God has had to remind us to PAY ATTENTION to this. Our surrounding tend to crowd in and how quickly do we “lose sight” of the Father?

Just this morning, after getting up early on a Saturday, sharing private time with God, a workout, and then a short “peek” into the upcoming’s weeks bill schedule and it happened. My wife walked into the den with her morning welcome and not 5 minutes into our conversation, my mind set turned and I allowed a few words of negativity to block our communication. She did nothing to create this, I just had a thought in my mind that i allowed time to develop and BLAH… puked the thought out loud and ruined what would be a great Saturday morning.

Watch yourself…   stand guard….   HOLD FAST….    this is the idea for Barnabas Man. This is the life of a believer living in a condemned sin stained world. We get lost in it… when we are not careful. Often I ask God for the ultimate Super Christian Hero Power to be absolutely perfect and righteousness ALL THE TIME….  I am sure you can see He doesn’t answer all my wishes with a firm YES, of course. But why not?

My growth and repentance comes from the hang ups. This morning’s failure just showed me (and unfortunately my wife) that i need to practice patience, and resolve, and communication. This mornings blunder will become this afternoon’s blessing. Granted, I had to go outside and pull weeds with the gnats and bugs ticking me off for about an hour before I was ready to come back inside and lay down my ego and apologize.  Regardless, the words of repentance and the asking of forgiveness came forth…

Watch yourself… Stand guard…   HOLD FAST….   “I AM COMING SOON, that NO ONE May seize your crown”

Brothers, every day, every moment, until we hear that trumpet sound and see the Mighty King coming down on the Stallion, watch yourself, stand guard, HOLD FAST.

Father, forgive me for impatience and poor words. Forgive me for thinking I have my junk together and can relax. Implant within us MORE BOUNDARIES and MORE HEDGES and MORE STRENGTH and MORE PROTECTION. Lord, rid me of my negativity and selfishness. Empower us with yourself Father and speak your will through our lives. For the Barnabas Men across the world, and for those yet to know you, We lay down our lives for your name. AMEN
