32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Ever wish that was your community or family or church? One heart and soul? All filled with great power and great grace! I wonder how many pastors and leaders read this verse and covet what the apostles had in Acts?
A little over 3 years ago a good friend, who has since gone to be with the Lord in Heaven, gave me a nugget of truth that changed things for my in regards to my community, family, and church… You see I had reached a point of content-ness that was very comfortable. The career was great, my relationship with my spouse was great, the kids were great, no hardships, community life was great and encouraging…. yet there was this word from Don that just ate into my soul looking for answer. I had received an opportunity and quite honestly I was afraid as heck to take it but Don gave me something to think on. As simple as it may have been he said, “If you don’t go down there and take this spot who will? There is another man ready to take on the challenge you are afraid of. Go out there and be that man.”
Now I know this word was not directly pointed to unity with our brothers but the end goal is…. If we want to follow the apostles act and see God perform miracles through us and have “Like minded” mission with others and “care for the needy” together, we simply have to go out and BE THAT. Yesterday, Justin wrote about the NOW and for those who have known the Barnabas Men Group, KINGDOM NOW has always been the forefront of the messages. YOU ARE A BELIEVER TODAY. I AM A HEIR TO THE THRONE OF CHRIST RIGHT NOW.
Speaking from experience, there are very few AMAZING things that are going to happen to you by “playing it cool” or “waiting on the Lord”. Do NOT HEAR THAT WRONG.. there is a difference between being patient and wise than “waiting on the Lord” due to fear and laziness. If we want to act as one heart and one soul and build the KINGDOM NOW, we simply get up and get going. Change your outlook, think different, pray more focused on LISTENING to HIM in lieu of asking HIM for things.
FATHER, Can you speak to us individually this day and give us your mission? Can you touch the man reading this morning that just “doesn’t” know how to change or how to get something going for his family or church? CAN YOU SPEAK to us God…. that we may listen and walk as the apostles did to CHANGE THE WORLD and BUILD YOUR CHURCH?
