I really enjoy movies and am too often caught up in the emotions of the movie. And movie quotes can and have been a form of communication for me as well, as I would guess they are for you – For example:
“I love you. You — complete me.” Jerry Maguire
“May the force be with you”. Star Wars
“There is no place like home”. Wizard of Oz
The list can go on and on, the one that has been with me for sometime is from The Shawshank Redemption and Andy is right, it really does come down to a simple choice; Get busy living, or get busy dying. Sitting at a funeral this is the thought that I had, Get busy living or get busy dying.
The struggle for me and I would guess most of is what scriptures teaches about living. It is totally contrary to what the world would lead me to believe. The world tells me that to live, to really live it is all about me and that I should have everything that I want regardless or boundaries or commitments. I am looking for acceptance, prosperity and peace in what this world has to offer.
However, the Living Word of God teaches:
39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
That finding my life comes as the cost of losing it. That living is not really about me at all. True living comes at a cost, the cost of my life. In losing my life we will find peace and serenity, and where we will be comforted.
Men, as I am writing this I am struck and overcome by what I have been missing. What I am and have been missing is Jesus and His life giving words. His Book is full of life giving words and they will give us more that than any two hour movie could. I know where I need to start, Eric Liddell says it this way; You will know as much of God, and only as much of God, as you are willing to put into practice.
Father in Heaven be with us this day and week as we go forward to put into practice knowing you. Allow us deeper into your love than we have ever been. Allow ourselves to be known by and to trust you with life as we lay down ours for you and our Savior Jesus.
