Galatians 5:13-14
Life by the Spirit
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Today many will will be celebrating with the after thought of those who’d risked all, and, our God who’s seen us through. Children will be more interested in revelry with snaps and bangs, perhaps father’s grilling, mother’s molding gelatin in their finest attire and adornments. Will we forget to be a light? Matt 5:14 “You are the light of the world!” Go into the highways, country roads, picnics and parades, and share the good news we have of real freedom. This is the day the Lord has made! Psalm 118:24 , We will be happy and rejoice in it! Yes celebrate, but, don’t forget where our compass leads.
Today is celebratory, but, it’s not an excuse to indulge the flesh. 1 Cor. 6:12 Says; “I have the right to do anything,” you say – But, not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything” – but, I will not be mastered by anything.” Remember, you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and Spirit which are His. Gran daddy always said idle hands are the devils playground. So, don’t just let them swim around the ice chest looking for that ice cold drink all day, lend a hand in humble love. Get out with them young ones, one on one. Get with that lady and give a hand with serving, other then using a boat paddle to feed that belly. Lady inspire that man with the look they long for, maybe wipe the sweat off the brow of that grill master.
Neighbors, love them as yourselves. Reach out, give a holler and a wave of greeting. Maybe an invite, a plate to the elderly, remember honor those guests, some have entertained angels unaware. Thank those vets and administrators of our land who protect and guide us. Use Your freedom to love others and show them the freedom we have in Christ.
Today the fields are white unto harvest, tomorrow is not promised so keep up the good work. In the prayer and praise you have for what you receive today, remember others and the steps of grace we will need for tomorrow. On this Independence Day, don’t forget our dependence on the Lord.
Father, thank you for the examples of our fore fathers and mothers throughout history, people of faith. We pray for our land, and it’s returned devotion to you. Help each of us be examples as little Christs, filled with love, long suffering, and servant-hood. Pray you look over us, and bless our actions today that they may be pleasing to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
