Better Is…

Psalm 84:10

Psalm 84:10-12

Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.

Lord Almighty,
    blessed is the one who trusts in you.

I am sure that we have heard sayings through our life that have stuck with us, for example; if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I bet we have all heard that one.

Well there is one I heard sitting around some tables working through various issues and that one goes like this: Anything small enough for me to understand is probably not big enough to help. That one has just stuck with me.

David tells me that my worst days with Christ will be better that my best days without Him. Seeking to spend just one day in His courts will be better than anything that I can experience outside of them.

For me that is pretty easy to read and understand, however I struggle each day  to trust and believe that time in His presence is what I need. Usually, my focus is on what can I do today that will make my live and the lives of those I am to care for – how do I get more money,  or; if we could get a new car or; a different job on and on it goes.

Here is what I know, I can only work a limited number of problems at a time and inevitably a new one will arise and then another and the juggling act continues to grow until one comes crashing to the ground. Now I need to clean up that mess while trying to continuing to juggle the remaining items.

When all I need to do as David encourages is to spend time in His presence and make that my priority then when I trust in that, Our Father will be our sun and shield, He will bestow blessing and honor and that no good thing will He withhold from those who are walking righteously. For He knows what I need (not what I want) and if I needed more He would have given it freely.

I pray that today I will trust in His presence and that I will walk rightly today (not perfect – for it is not perfection but the direction that matters) and with a heart that honors Him and others first!!
