Putting on the “New” Self

Ephesians 4:24-32 NIV

24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
26 “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you
Dwight L. Moody provides a quote for me to think about….
“I have had more trouble with myself than any other man.”
Working in the trenches of “life” we forget what manner of character we are; “that we were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:20. This scripture reminds me to put on the new self, not wallow in the old mired crusty self.
Because I’m in the world must I speak untruthfully with my neighbors, co workers, loved ones? Ex., “Eyeing the neighbors possessions i.e. golf clubs, lawn mower, wife?
Hanging at the time clock, for juuust one more minute? I’ll be to bed in a minute Hun, I’m just checking out the online ads for a new bass boat…..???” Really?
Yet, is this beyond any of us?
Are we holding onto anger? Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.” If you hold on to it, the devil certainly anchors into you. Hey, your life is like a vapor forgive and love. Don’t let the sun set on your anger, will you have a morning to give it up?
Thieving, even thieves don’t like thieves! Forget about it! Work in earnest and take care of those around you in earnest.
Here’s a punch in my mouth…. unwholesome talk …. Do you know what that is? That’s when the whole some of what you gonna say is UN-welcome. Does my cursing build up others? Does my foul mouth provide you according to your needs? (No, not my needs according to My Doctoral Prescription….) I’ll leave the prescribing to the GREAT Physician. (SMH @ ME) We need to uplift in a manner that doesn’t abase us. We need to get up out of the dirt, dust ourselves off and present ourselves living testimony.
Don’t make the Holy Spirit sad 😦 . Don’t tell the Spirit quiet down inside there. It’s that small voice inside (or hollering voice) trying to give you guidance.
It’s time to throw out the trash. Get rid of all that rotten gunk that’s holding us back, hurting and offending those around us, and our heavenly Father.
Lets love, lets forgive as our Lord Jesus has and does Romans 5:8 “but, God shows His love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
At moments like this I gotta pray, (and your welcome to join me):
Lord you know my ways, my wayward thoughts. Please cleanse me and renew my mind with your thoughts and your ways above mine. Lord thank you for forgiving me and paying for it at the cross. As you’d risen from the tomb help me to rise again and walk in newness in your guiding Spirit. God I love you and thank you for your blessings in Jesus name, Amen.
